Agricultural Farms

The Experimental Centre-Pilot Farm of Castelvolturno (CE) has a great importance within the Department of Agricultural Sciences. It was necessary as a "laboratory" of Agricultural Chemistry, keeping its functions in the years up to now. The researchers of the Department of Agricultural Sciences can perform directly in the open field, the scientific investigations in the agricultural chemistry field. The Centre consists of: i, Business Centre of about 14 acres; ii, Podere Fiorillo of about 9 acres; iii, Vecchio Campo of about 22 acres. The Centre is equipped with buildings that are sufficient to meet the needs of the company, as well as machines, equipment, and facilities essential for carrying out scientific programs and experimental activities by the researchers of the Department of Agricultural Sciences. The field (45 acres) is divided into plots of 3300 m2 equipped with irrigation system. The Centre has a meteorological station included in UCEA national network of the MIPAAF. The research activity is currently aimed to: i, define the criteria for the optimization of production systems and the application of innovative strategies in the "sustainable agriculture" context; ii, identify and develop high efficiency fertilization models for the plant production and for the protection of environmental resources; iii, improve the plant nutrition. The results obtained have been published in international journals or in addition to numerous master degree and doctoral thesis.

The Agricultural and Zootechnical Farm, formerly known as "Torre Lama", was purchased in 1924 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for scientific and educational purposes and it was entrusted to the management to the Cultivation Laboratory of the Higher Institute of Agriculture of Portici (hereafter Institute of General Agronomy and Herbaceous Crops of the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Naples). The Agricultural and Zootechnical Farm is an auxiliary structure for the University's activities in the field of research, education and experimentation, within the agricultural and veterinary sciences areas. In particular, the Farm aims to organize, coordinate and improve, also through the use of innovative technologies, services for research and education purposes. The Farm is located in Bellizzi, (SA) about 70 km from the Department of Agricultural Sciences, along the SS 18, in the area Pontecagnano-Battipaglia, and lies within the District of  "Bonifica Destra Sele". The Agricultural and Zootechnical Farm, with an extension of 49 acres, has facilities for cultivation, research and education purposes. It is equipped with an office building, a conference room, a small canteen and a guesthouse with 12 double rooms. The farm has three greenhouses built in steel and glass, and equipped with heating system. The irrigation system is computerized and centralized, and it is adaptable to the experimental needs and to the service of all the greenhouses.
